Lauren's colorful Otter Space Tattoo

Tell us about you:

I’m from the states (Maryland) and I’ve always just been a huge nerd and into art. I didn’t start getting tattoos until about two years ago because I just wasn’t confident enough in myself to have someone’s art on ME, but I’m glad I did!

I’m inspired by so many different things and each of my tattoos definitely reflects that; whether it’s nature, poetry, the people I love, or the quirky! It’s about what makes you personally happy, and I definitely smile every time I see my tattoos!

What’s The Story Behind It?

Sam (The tattoo artist) has actually done the other two that I have on my leg. “Otter Space” happened to come up in a conversation when we were working on the squirrel! Sam and I have become friends, so I wasn’t afraid to tell her about my weirdo ideas and how much I love otters and puns! She got excited about the idea and made it happen even better than I could have imagined.

Who Was The Tattoo Artist?

I got my tattoo from Sam Compasso who is currently working at Stay Humble in Baltimore.

She is awesome and I love being able to support a female artist with killer talent!

Did It Hurt, Were You Brave?

Yeah, it definitely hurt because it’s on the back of my thigh and a pretty sensitive area. It wasn’t my first so I knew what to expect and got through it with some tasty snacks and fun conversation. I plan on getting the rest of my thigh done, so it’s nice to have a good chunk out of the way already!

Anything Else You’d Like To Say?

I’m really happy I did my research and found someone so awesome that I totally trust with my body art! I feel like it can be a vulnerable experience when you have to share with someone what you’re thinking and want to permanently put on your body, but Sam has made me so much more comfortable in just being myself and not being afraid to go out and get what I want! If anyone else is feeling this way, I would definitely tell them to just go for it and don’t be afraid to be you! Also, don’t forget that your tattoo artist is an ARTIST and you can commission other work from them to help support during hard times!
